 Marine Dock Damage

Many incidents occur causing damage to fixed objects such as berths, piers, dolphins, cranes, loading systems, bridges and locks within port installations or alongside navigable waterways. The degree of damage can range from the obviously severe to suspected minor.

Melliss receive frequent instructions from either Protection and Indemnity Associations (P&I Clubs) on behalf of vessels or alternatively port operators and/or their insurers and lawyers. Partners are on permanent standby and will travel on immediate notice to any location worldwide. Ports in areas such as Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Rim, China and Australia have been visited in the recent past.

Following the initial visit a detailed report is prepared which will include all available information regarding the background to the incident and describe the extent of structural damage and assessment of repair costs. If a cooperative attitude is adopted by the opposing party negotiations on the extent of necessary repairs, a review of tender procedures and recommendations for financial liability are undertaken. Should any of these factors become matters of dispute the role of Expert Witness and the preparation of Expert Reports for Courts becomes necessary

The Partners of Melliss are experienced in the preparation of Expert Reports and are familiar with the Court processes in areas which adopt Court appointed surveyors and varying rules of discovery as say between the United States and the United Kingdom.
